There was an organist but there weren’t sufficient people to begin a choir. The few people who were there sang whole heartedly. As years went by and the Sunday school children grew up and became the pioneers to commence a choir in the mid 1980’s. In the late 1980’s they had a carol service. One year all the choristers dressed in white & green and sat in the shape of a Christmas tree. As they sang ‘Silent night’ with candle light oh! what a beauty it was. Now by the grace of God we have young organists and many people singing in the choir. We are so grateful to God for the dedication of all the choristers, choir masters / mistresses and the organists.
The “Festival of 9 Lessons and Carols” was successfully held on 23rd December 2023 at 6 p.m. at Union Church, Welisara. This traditional Christmas service featured nine Bible readings (lessons) interspersed with a variety of Christmas carols and hymns.
