The Sunday School was started since the inception of Union Church Welisara in 1972 with the few children of the families. There were no Sunday school teachers or a superintendent. Few parishioners volunteered and taught the children. During Christmas there weren’t enough children for the Nativity play. One teacher had to bring her little grandchildren who worshiped in another church to act as wise men.
The Sunday School now has got off the ground. Today by God’s grace it has grown to approximately 80 children from different ethnic and cultural background. A dedicated staff of teachers is a blessing to the Sunday school who guide the children to grow spiritually. The teachers with great enthusiasm and commitment also lay the path for prayers, worship, to study the word of God and guide them in the footsteps of the Lord.
Children, aged from toddlers to teenagers, have classes from nursery to grade 11 in English and Sinhala medium are given special attention by our professional teachers.
